They were also devoted to spending as much time as possible with their sixteen grandchildren: Alan, Austin, Chloë, Eva, George, Hannah (Samuel), Helen (Carlos), Iain (Paly), Joshua (Sarah), Karl (Jessica), Laura (Trevor), Lydia (Micheal), Miranda, Sarah, Whitney, and Zachary. In retirement, Ed and Ev travelled to destinations throughout Europe, Hawaii, Canada, and Greece. They soon settled in West Allis, where they had four children: Emily Matthews (Alastair), Margaret Callens (Anthony), Eric Nimmer (Ramona), and Thomas Nimmer (Xiaodong).Įd enjoyed a successful career over the years, earning his MS in Metallurgical Engineering in 1957, and working for such companies as Briggs & Stratton, Ladish, Murphy Diesel, and Harley-Davidson. Ed graduated in 1949, and “Ed and Ev” were married on July 14th, 1951. It was in choir practice at a chapel on campus where he met and began courting his forever sweetheart, Evelyn J. That fall, Ed enrolled in UW-Madison to complete his BS in Metallurgical Engineering. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on May 3rd, 1946. For the remainder of WWII, he served as a US Navy SeaBee in locations throughout the South Pacific as part of the supply chain, ensuring necessary goods reached the front lines. Following his training, he was assigned to the 18th Special Naval construction Battalion in Davisville, RI. On July 1st, 1943, Ed enlisted in the US Navy. After graduating from Lutheran High School in 1942, Ed enrolled in the Engineering program with UW-Extension. From his earliest years of schooling, Ed set himself apart as a gentle, hardworking, and humble soul. Ed was born on October 20th, 1924, to Edward & Hanna (Hinz) Nimmer in Milwaukee. Edward Henry Gustav Nimmer, 97, passed into eternal life on December 19th, 2021.
